There’s Nothing to Watch! Give “The Chosen” a Chance!

If your family is like my family, then we struggle with something that our entire family can watch and enjoy. Unfortunately, the media that we have access to does not meet the standards that we want for ourselves or our children. About three years ago we were introduced to a series called, “The Chosen.” Since that time, it has become a family favorite for us as it brings the Bible to life!

Initially the series could only be viewed on “The Chosen” app and could be shared on your television screen through a smart tv. Due to a huge increase in popularity, it can now be viewed on Angel Studios and as of recently, Netflix!

They are now up to Season 3 and recently we were able to watch the first two episodes in the movie theatre. The first three seasons depict the life of Christ and it sometimes go back and forth in time to show the past of certain characters. It also spends time giving emphasis to the disciples of Christ and giving a closer look into their upbringing, background, and family situations.

One word of encouragement is to definitely don’t give up after Season 1, Episode 1. To me, that is the hardest episode to get involved with and to follow. From that episode moving forward there has never been an episode that I didn’t enjoy.

Three Reasons Why I Love “The Chosen!”

  • I don’t have to sit anxious of what the show might say. There is no profanity or inappropriate content. Now granted, there is violence due to persecution and love from married couples, but it is nothing extreme.
  • It brings the Bible to life! It is one thing to read about people in the Bible and the issues they faced, but it is another thing to truly see it. Obviously, these directors are taking some thematic liberties, but it is eye-opening to see how Matthew could have been treated by the other disciples as he was a former tax collector. Or the challenges faced by Peter’s wife. Or the discrimination that an unclean person would face in the community.
  • Our entire family can watch it and enjoy it and get entertainment and value from the episodes. We can then have great God conversations spring-boarding from the episodes we have watched. If you are in a rut or worried about what your kids are watching, I highly encourage you give “The Chosen” a try!
