Mixin’ Up the Bucket List

One of my favorite things to do is travel. I honestly love planning the trip and then watching as the memories play out. I don’t have a lot on my overall bucket list for my life, but one thing I want to do is visit all 50 states. In order to truly count as a “visit” we have to spend at least one night in that state. Over the last few years this has given us a lot more intentionality as we plan our next trips.

After going on a few of our trips, I came home and wanted to find a way to truly recognize the memories that we had experienced. That is where the “Travel Wall” idea came into existence. I found a scratch off US map on Etsy. There are a variety of styles and sizes so you can just go on there and see what suits your needs. I purchased one that when scratched off actually reveals a picture of something in the state.

I had continued to see advertisements for Mixtiles (www.mixtiles.com) on social media. They take your photos and create pictures with frames and material on the back to hang them. They are constantly running deals and so I waited until I saw a deal that included a lot of pictures and went for it. My goal was to create a mosaic similar to an American flag. I printed a caption for each picture and actually placed it on the photo to designate where the picture was taken.

We had a perfect location on the landing area leading to our upstairs. Our goal is to eventually have a picture from each of the 50 states on there. Right now, we have duplicates of states in order to fill the wall. The awesome thing about Mixtiles is that the company claims that you can move the pictures around and “restick” them in different locations. We have not had to try that part yet but enjoy the thought of being able to trade out pictures in the future.

I love walking by this wall daily and reminiscing about the amazing trips and experiences with family. It truly is one way that I am able to make the moments matter!
