No matter what our circumstances or lot in life we have all been affected by motherhood and we have all either had or been a mother. Motherhood can be one of the most daunting tasks faced by women today. Women want and strive to be the best mother around and when we feel like we do not live up to cultural expectations we many times consider ourselves less than acceptable.
While becoming a mother physically is a great blessing from God, we are also called to be spiritual mothers to many of the younger women in our lives. With all the societal pressure that we feel and expectations we place on ourselves, becoming the “perfect” mother has become a taunting task that we cannot master. God never intended for motherhood to be viewed this way, but rather as a blessing to pass on our inheritance and faith in God to our children; both physical and spiritual.
Pray for Your Family-The Story of Hannah-1 Samuel 1, 1 Samuel 2:1-11
Hannah had dealt with a lot of criticism and ridicule from Elkanah’s other wife, Peninnah because God had not blessed her with children. Every year as they went to make the sacrifice Hannah only received one portion. Hannah desperately prayed to God for a child. After much anguish, God honored her prayer and blessed her with Samuel. Hannah did not forget the blessing that God had bestowed upon her and after the child was of age, she offered him back to God. Hannah prayed and honored God with her family. 1 Samuel 2 begins with Hannah’s prayer of praise.
As a physical or spiritual mother, the first item of business for the family should be prayer. Before we begin worrying about meeting the standards placed on us by the world as a mother, we should pray for God’s blessing on our children and most importantly that they will come to the knowledge of accepting Him as their Savior. God honored Hannah’s request and in return Hannah offered her son to the service of God.

- Are you willing to honor God for His blessings in your life in regard to your children?
- Do you care more about God’s opinion of your children or the worlds?
