I am always looking for ways to save my sanity at Christmas. I have learned throughout the years that the more organized I can be going into the holiday season, the better chance I will have to remain sane throughout the season. Drumroll please….welcome Google onto the scene.
I have utilized the Google “Keep” app over the years for a variety of reasons. It is basically like digital post-it notes that go with you wherever you go. I use this for grocery lists weekly, daily announcements at my school, and a few years ago started to use it for Christmas gift ideas. During the year I have a note for each of my immediate family members and a generic note for others I may give gifts to on Christmas. As I interact with people and hear about things they like, want, or enjoy then I mark that down on the note. It’s super easy and convenient as it is on my phone so I can mark it down as soon as I leave the conversation. Now when Christmas (or any other special occasion) rolls around I can pull out my notes and have ideas for gifts. These typically end up being some of the most meaningful presents.
Another Google app that has helped with my Christmas organization is Google Sheets. Every year I create a spreadsheet with all the people we purchase for and the approximate amounts to spend on each one. As I purchase gifts then I add the costs on the spreadsheet to make sure we are staying in our allocated amounts. This helps me stay in budget, to make sure I am purchasing for everyone we need, and to always have access to the information.
Utilizing these apps has truly made a world of difference in the holiday season by being intentional in our gift giving and remaining in budget. This allows for a less stressful purchasing season and a more enjoyable experience. During this holiday season I encourage you to look for ways to reduce your stress and be able to focus on the moments that matter most!
